Notes from the Nurse

Welcome!  Parents, if you indicated on the Medical Emergency form that your child has a food allergy or medical concern such as Asthma, you will soon receive a letter from the nurse requesting medications to manage these conditions. There are care plans, as well, that must be completed by a physician and returned to the school. These plans help guide our staff in treating your child should an emergency arise.

Message from the Principal

Liberty Park Families,

Next Monday, August 21, students will be dismissed at normal times.  Car riders will be released at 3:30pm and bus riders will be released at 3:40pm.  Also, after much research and consideration, I wanted you to know that we will not be taking students outside with any type of eclipse viewing glasses to watch the eclipse.  Students will be able to do the many activities their teacher has been planning and also watch the eclipse safely in the classroom via technology and live streaming sights that are safe to view.  With the potential risk to their eye sight, and the potential permanency such an injury could cause, I felt it best to be safe and not expose our students to such a risk.  Also, we will be doing our best to educate the students about not looking at the sun on the way out to the bus and on the ride home.  We also ask that you have a similar conversation and stress these safety factors to your child as well. Thank you for understanding and helping us put the safety of your child first.

Our first roller skating party of the year is this coming Monday!  Doors open at 6:00 pm.  **This is a time change from last year.  The event will now run 6—8 pm.** Enjoy music,  skating, bounce houses and Liberty Park company while the kids have some fun at the Roller Cave. Those that are 2 and under are free too, as well as adults that are not skating.   There is just a $6.00 skate rental for all students/siblings/friends & adults that plan to skate.  Parents or an adult chaperone must stay with their student during this event.  Please do not drop off your student and leave.

Monday night is also our first monthly Texas Roadhouse Night for the school year.   The third Monday of each month is designated as Liberty Park Texas Roadhouse Night at the restaurant located on Shadeland Avenue.  We receive 10% of your purchase back as a donation.  Make sure your server staples a copy of your receipt to the flyer that came home with your student to ensure that LP gets credit for this fundraiser.  Remember that you can order carry out & it will still count toward our fundraiser.  Texas Roadhouse is open from 4 pm to 10:30 pm.  You can grab dinner before or after our roller skating party!

Have a great weekend and as always, I thank you for your continued support of Liberty Park Elementary!
Your Principal,

Jason Brooks

I would be grateful if each family could take a moment to provide feedback using this anonymous survey link:  Parent Survey.

Liberty Park Elementary has extremely high expectations and we strive to be the very best elementary school in Indiana.  Every year we create a school improvement plan that is submitted to the state department of education.  Part of our school improvement process is gathering feedback from our families on things that are going well and ways that we can improve as a school.

Thank you!

~Mr. Brooks

Be sure to ask your student what they have learned about CORE!

Ask them how they can show Civility, Order, Respect, and Excellence at home as well.

Stay tuned for the 1st winners of the 17/18 school year.

Throughout the week, each teacher will be looking for a SuperCORE student of the week going above and beyond showing all parts of CORE.  On Fridays, Mr. Brooks draws one student per grade level from the office Badge Box to earn Soaring Eagle Badge!  These students receive a free Fro-yo coupon, gift certificate to Texas Roadhouse, a special pencil, and also get to visit the office during recess to play the Wii with a friend!

Dress Code Reminder:  jeans/jeggings/denim pants of any color may only be worn to school on special occasions. Students will bring home a "ticket" the day before jeans will be allowed. Black or gray jeans/jeggings are not uniform wear and we may contact you to bring uniform pants/shorts/skirt/dress to school so your student may change clothes. Also, young ladies should not be wearing leggings as pants, regardless of the length of their shirt.  Leggings should only be worn under a skirt or shorts.  Acceptable attire for bottoms is pants (slacks/khakis) /shorts/skirts/dresses in black, light or navy blue, and tan.   With warmer weather headed our way, we'd also like to remind parents that open-toed or open-heeled shoes (sandals/flip-flops) are not permitted.  Booties or tennis shoes with heels higher than 1" are discouraged as injury may occur during gym or recess.

Student Uniform Policy LP Dress Code  The students uniformly dressed policy is available in the Parent/Student Handbook as well as our school website.  A link can also be found in the Helpful Links section of this newsletter.

If uniform assistance is needed, please do not hesitate to contact our dean, Kathy Hench, at 317-532-1850.

SCHOOL DISTRICT PUBLICATIONS/NEWS MEDIA USE
The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child's school. This may include your child's photo, your child's name or your child's work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/social media or in staff training videos.  We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child's achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/political purposes.  However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognitions if you notify your child's school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.
The mission of Liberty Park, in partnership with its entire community, will educate each student by providing a positive, challenging, and enriched learning environment that enables each student to become a life-long learner and a responsible citizen in an increasingly global society.
